Baby Steps

Hey kids, check me out! I finally found someone to help me with the more technical part of blogging (thanks J!) and now if you go to iamlizbeth.com, you get to my wordpress blog. Yeah! There is no need to make a change, for the moment I am just redirecting.  Thanks for your patience.

Mac in a PC World

I work in an architecture firm, which means they use CAD which means they all work on PCs. I am lucky enough to not have to work on a PC, which is great in most scenarios. Except when an architect asks, “Can you send me the path to that?” I guess… They think it is so easy because they have an address bar at the top and they just copy and paste. I was typing in the path by hand. Crazy, I know. Today I decided I was mad as hell and I wasn’t going to take it anymore. Actually I was thinking that there had to be a better way. There are a few better ways. Some of them include buying a plug in, and I wasn’t down with that. Some included scripts… huh? But this one I found in the comments of an OSX Hints post was just right! It is the little things in life.

Re: Copy paths from Finder selections

I got one new easy method:

Go to System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse

under the tab ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’, click the plus sign at the bottom left.

Set the application to: ‘Finder’

Menu Title: ‘New Window Containing Selection’ (CASE SENSITIVE)

Set the keyboard shortcut to: ‘Command-G’ (If you dun like this key, u may change it to your preference)

Then in finder you just need to press the new keyboard shortcut key, in my case i press Command-G. A textedit with the file path will be opened and there u are! Viola!

NO dragging, NO multiple key strokes, NO right clicking and of course NO 3rd party plug-in!!!

Well Well Well

M&I found out some really great property news today. It seems that what we thought was a hand dug well is actually most likely a very deep recoverable well. What does this mean? For what we are hoping isn’t a lot of money we will be able to have water on the property. We already have plans for an outdoor shower with an on demand (tank-less) water heater. The news came from Mike, the gentleman who is putting in our foundation for a our sleeping shed. He wanted to know if we minded that he was poking around. Heck no we don’t mind! If you are in the Hudson Valley and need some work done, check out Arcady Tractor Works and Arborculture

Closer All The Time

This past weekend M&I were joined by my dad and grandfather upstate to get some work done, and boy did we ever! This is the bench that we put together with the outhouse in the background. You can’t see but my project this weekend was creating a mulch path that leads to the outhouse. Grandpa is going to paint us a sign for it. We also made a rain cover with the largest tarp I have ever seen AND got the floor put together for our ReadyMade shed! Phew! I can’t thank those guys enough. They come up, we laugh we set things on fire, we get things done. It is fantastic. I hope that one day soon they will be able to come up and laugh and set things on fire and relax a little. Maybe next time Grandpa, you can keep the fire inside the burn barrel? (If you look closely at the following picture you will notice a not so little fire to the right of the burn barrels.)

Wordle

I admit, I heard about Wordle months ago but didn’t think it could be all that cool. I kept seeing posts about how great it was and how customizable and blah blah blah. Well the blah blah is true. It actually is quite a neat program and can make your words (in my case I added my blog address) look lovely with their custom palettes or if you have time to play you can create your own. Unexpected Surprise

This weekend M&I will have company upstate! Grandpa and Dad are coming to help. They are good builders so we are going to work on some building projects. I like seeing those guys. It is always a lot of laughs. I wonder what Grandpa’s nickname will be this trip.

World Clock

I have been using the Fliqlo screensaver for a while now and although I didn’t realize it, I needed a change. That is until I saw World Clock. Now I want to go and do something else just so that the screensaver will kick in.  via

Ticky Tacky

Even when I did have cable I was too cheap to pay for premium channels such as Showtime. I felt it was $15 a month that I could use for something else. Recently while I was home scanning photos and clicking around what Netflix has to watch instantly I stumbled upon Weeds. While scanning and working on other assorted crafts I watched seasons 1 & 2 straight through. It is a half hour show so it was easier than it sounds, but that is still a lot of Weeds. The show is great, as many Showtime series shows tend to be. Interesting characters, good story line and fabulous jewelry. (The main character wears Me & Ro almost exclusively) And surprisingly little pot smoking for a show about a Suburban soccer mom who becomes a dope dealer to support her family after her husband dies. I have had to pace myself with season 3, but only because I have to wait for the DVDs.
