Mmmmmm Felt

I love stuff made of heavy wool felt. It just has such a wonderful texture and feeling. Once upon a time I had a favorite purse made of felt which I basically carried until the handles started to wear thin and I couldn’t bear to carry it anymore because I didn’t want to watch it melt away. Well today I ran across the Swedish designer Pia Wallen who has a lovely purse design made of, you guessed it, felt! I think I may have found an appropriate replacement. Oooo and I just found a place where I can buy felt to make my own special creations. 🙂

Baby, Talk Dirty to Me

When I was younger somewhere in between classic rock and grunge I was a huge fan of glam metal, more specifically what is known as the second wave of glam metal. Poison and Cinderella were two of my absolute favorites. You just don’t hear enough Poison on the radio these days. “Why is this popping up in my blog?” you ask. After soccer on Tuesday while having dinner and beers with the guys I was stopped in my conversational tracks by the opening bars of “Talk Dirty to Me” a hit single by the afore mentioned band, Poison. I was unable to continue the conversation because of all the singing I had to do until the song was over. It turns out a friend of mine admitted he was also a glam metal fan… who knew? I have to say that Live Bait is my new favorite place to grab a burger and beer after soccer. The food is decent and the music superb, last week I was surprised with “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I can’t wait to see what blast from the past next week has to offer.

Kataifi

Mmmmmmmmm. I was near Union Square at lunch today so I went to one of my favorite old haunts, Rainbow Falafel and got one of my favorite desserts, kataifi. It’s yummy honey goodness it just too much for me to resist. Hey, you don’t get my curves by saying no to dessert.

Dreaming of the Future

M & I have property in a little town upstate NY. He would argue that it isn’t really upstate, but at 90 miles away from NYC I call it upstate. It is a long story which I may get into one day, but for now let’s just say there is a lot of work to be done. At this point there is no house or utilities. But I like to dream. So today I am going to post some pictures that inspire me and remind me that one day it will be a wonderful get away.

Stawberries in Salad?!

I would much rather spend a 1/2 day cooking than a 1/2 hour. There is some thing about spending the time to really craft a meal that makes me happy. This means that most of my cooking time is spent on Sunday. I usually will make the meal we plan to eat and a few other things that will be eaten as leftovers during the week. Hey, if I am there making a mess in the kitchen I may as well get a few week night meals out of the way. This Sunday’s meal was homemade mac and cheese (this was from the freezer, made on a previous Sunday) pork with apricot sauce and a salad with lettuce, strawberries, glazed walnuts and parmesan cheese with balsamic dressing. Yum! I have my stepmom to thank for the salad recipe. She made it for us the last time we were visiting and I loved it so much that I had to make it myself. The funny thing is, the salad took this most time.

Oatmeal Can be Good

M & I don’t really eat all that well. We eat tasty things, but they aren’t always the most healthy choices. So this week instead of a muffin, bagel or danish for breakfast we are having oatmeal. Not just any oatmeal, oh no! This is steel cut made with milk and topped with flax seeds, strawberries and sugared walnuts that I toasted myself last night. It was delicious. I can’t wait until tomorrow when I get to have some more. 🙂

Organizing Life

This weekend was wonderfully lazy. I watched a few movies on TV, got my haircut and took care of a few things that needed my attention. The big project was to get my computer desk in order. Hopefully soon I am going to be getting a new computer, (Steve Jobs, if you are reading this, please release the new macs!) new monitor and black and white ink system for my large format printer. Why do I need all this? So I can have my very own digital photo set up. For the longest time I wanted a darkroom, but never had the space. I honestly prefer digital. Instant gratification. Patience is not something I am known for.

First Signs of Snow

This morning we woke up to see a little snow covering the ground. By the time I got to work there were no signs but it is still quite chilly. I would say it is definitely winter now.

I am part of Andre’s posse

I am not generally a very adventurous knitter, I knit scarves mostly. I have a few scarf projects in progress at the moment but my favorite is the one I am knitting for my hubby. It is Andre the Giant. I am done with the hard part and now I just have to make it longer. M has already told me that he wasn’t expecting it for this winter so that takes the pressure off a little. I should really get cracking though otherwise he may not have it for next winter either! Join the posse and knit one of your own.
