New Year’s Resolution

I am generally not big on New Year’s resolutions. They are very often goals we set for ourselves in January that we have already abandoned in February for one reason or another… maybe that isn’t true for you, but it is true for me. I want this year to be different, I will make no promise that it will be, but I really want it to be. So what is my resolution? To take more pictures. In fact I want to take pictures everyday. Of everyday things. I take vacation photos, and some times even family event photos but I want to expand that to every day. So there it is. To keep me honest, I will post one lucky picture on this blog, which I guess means I will blog everyday. (What have I just gotten myself into…)

Cashmere Me!

It is cold in Brooklyn and I have been bundling up for a while. My warm layer of choice is cashmere. It is thin enough that I don’t feel like Bibendum and warm enough that I am still toasty. The only problem is the cleaning part… I have to resist the urge to throw it in the washing machine because I don’t want to end up with tiny little cashmere sweaters. I have some good directions here but it would be nice to have a way to wash all of them at once instead of one or two at a time.

Soccer Camp

I start soccer camp tomorrow. I have been out of commission for a while because of a bad ankle sprain. I am a little nervous. It has been a while since I was running around kicking a ball. I hope that my ankle is strong enough to hold its own.

Killer Weekend

This weekend I went to my dad’s for a visit and I am ashamed to say all I did when I was there was watch Dexter. The show totally hooked me and I wanted to watch it all the way to the end of season 1. I don’t have premium channels at home so I was catching up with the series on demand. I promise that next time I go for a visit I won’t just watch TV. 🙂

Stand Up Straight

Today I start iyengar yoga. I am excited. It is the type of yoga that helps you stand up straight and all you shorties out there know that we need all the help we can get to be taller.

Noni=Grandmother=Love

This lovely lady is my noni. She passed away when I was 13. It makes me sad that she isn’t around to tell me how old she was in this picture, to show me how to make sauce and meatballs, to tell me what it was like for her growing up, to tell me about her mother and father…

Pants!

I realized recently that I have been wearing jeans to work way too much. To remedy this I went shopping for some pants. This is not something I generally look forward to because it is tough for me to find pants that actually fit. Apparently all the stars were aligned and I got super lucky. I got not one, not two, but 5 pair of pants. All too long of course so I had to have them hemmed. Last night M picked up the 3 pair I dropped at the tailor. I now have 3 new pair of work pants that are actually the right length. As a 5′-1″ tall woman, that is really something wonderful. Today I worn the brown cuffed pair. Tomorrow I think I will go for the black ones with the blue pin stripes. It is nice to have choices.

No More Folding Chairs

On Thursday M & I pick up our new dining room chairs. I suppose they would be considered our first piece of grown up furniture, meaning they aren’t from IKEA or a hand me down. We decided on two since our dining room, while spacious for your normal apartment in Brooklyn, is really not all that large.

Bad Ass Earrings

Over the weekend I got new earrings. They are little skulls. For some reason lately I have really been on a skull kick so these really spoke to me. It turns out that the artist had a much deeper meaning than just to be badass. “The skull is a reminder that all things will pass, that there is wisdom in living in the face of such mortality, and, therefore, we should live fully and mindfully.” Who woulda thunk?
