This weekend was great. It was the first in a long time we were at home and we did a lot of puttering and we saw Batman. Batman was excellent by the way. If you liked the first one you will probably like this one a whole lot better. We have a few action packed weekends coming up. This weekend we are upstate trying to clear out a few areas. What else is new… I will take some pictures so you can see the progress. Next weekend is family reunion in WV. I am not looking forward to the travelling, but it should be fun. In general I am just trying to relax a little more every day. In NY it is really easy to be amped up all the time, but that is exhausting. I am doing my best to find quiet time where and when I can find it.
Cable Free!
M&I decided to cancel our cable service. It sounds crazy, I know. We haven’t had cable for the last two days because of some glitch and we have been surviving without it. Don’t get me wrong, I still plan to watch my shows when they start up again in the fall. I will also be watching plenty of TV. I am just going to be doing it differently. In these past few days we realized we missed a few shows and that would make it a little difficult to keep up. You may already know this, but now almost every show has the latest episodes online available. For free. Once that occured to me, I started to wonder why I was paying so much to watch these shows. I have to say, it helps to have a computer tech as a husband. Right now we are able to watch TV through a mac mini that we have hooked up through our tuner. It is a lot like watching TV normally, we just have to use a keyboard and mouse to get to some of the shows. With our iPhone and iTouch we are working on that also.
More Tiny Houses
I know, you are getting sick of hearing about living in a tiny house. I can’t help it. I am convinced that with 18 acres of property the last place we should be is inside in front of the boob tube (btw, I love TV). We should be outside, enjoying fresh air and being able to twirl in a circle with our arms stretched wide without bumping into anyone. Besides a tiny house won’t cost much to heat, keep cool or electrify. Back in 2006 I didn’t quite have my finger on the pulse of tiny houses so I missed the C3 cabin the first time around. Winner of AIA/Sunset Magazine Merit award in 2006 the plans were orginally made available for $2000, but have had a price drop to $850. Not bad. via
Cheap Getaway
With fuel costs on the rise and airlines charging extra for everything (really JetBlue, pillows?) it is becoming harder and harder to afford a getaway. In you are in NY, Boston, or DC you might consider the BoltBus. With fares starting at a buck each way and topping out at around $24 you can get from NY to DC for the weekend without breaking the bank. The word is the seats are comfortable and you get free wifi. Neat. M&I have been talking about going to DC for a while now maybe this is just the incentive we need. via
Retro Cute

These retro maryjanes are super cute. I have always been a sucker for maryjanes of just about any sort, although my all time favorite were my green doc martin maryjanes. (thanks again for going to get them, Mom) I wore then all the time with orange socks back in my college days. I wonder where they are now… via
But Quality Must be Better?
If you are like me you have probably been taught that it is quality not quantity that counts. Well that doesn’t apply to everything. When it comes to creative endevours, it is quantity that counts. It counts because your first few may not be all that great but as you practice over and over you get better, perfect your process, make the finished product something of which you will be proud. This applies to drawing, sewing, knitting, blogging… anything creative. So get out there and try. Learn from your mistakes. Then try again. via
Enough for an Army
For a while while at the grocery store as I passed the spice aisle I would say to myself, I seem to remember that we need mustard powder. Unfortunately I never said to myself, don’t be silly you got it last time we were here. Now I have at least two, maybe even three jars of mustard powder. What does one do with that much mustard powder? Until today I had no idea. Today a recipie for delicious looking soft pretzels popped into my reader and with that recipe there was a link to homemade mustard! Yeah! Why didn’t I think of that before?
Working On It
I am still getting used to wordpress and haven’t found a blog design I like yet… I hope you can hang in there. I am bound to find something soon but for the next little bit, expect to see something different.
Something Different
I love this magnart display system. Don’t feel like having a particular piece of art on the wall? With these, two seconds and you can have something new. via
The More the Better
I love color. White walls drive me crazy. I once had a bathroom in million dollar red and I loved it. I always looked so rosy. Just wonderful first thing in the morning. This causes a problem sometimes because I end up buying green chairs, magenta curtains, an orange table runner and that is just for the kitchen. To me the funny thing is I am drawn towards stark clean white minimal interiors… well pictures of them anyway. Completely white furniture, walls, floors with punches of color an accent here or there. I guess my biggest trouble would be what color?
