Wristlet

I just saw this super cute bag today on u-hangbag. Not only does Lisa show us great pictures of her bags, she includes step by step instructions! Amazing. I am not a great sewer, but I do make jewelry from time to time so I am excited about giving it a try. She also has a page devoted to tips on making hangbags. Who knows, I may be able to remake my little felt purse after all.

New Wardrobe

Things went great with project “spruce up wardrobe!” Thank you to all those who participated!! In addition to my mother, aunt and cousin, my sister also joined us via satellite. It was a great mix of style and experiences which made for some great suggestions. Hey, if an outfit could please the whole crowd I knew it was a keeper. I found out that I have not been too far off in my recent purchases. Some of my clothes need to be shortened (I am a shorty) and surprisingly few need to be subtracted. Luckily none of those were recent purchases. It was a lot like getting a new set a clothes without having to spend a lot of money. Shoes were the definite weak point. I am more of a comfort person and the chunky comfy shoes I have tended towards don’t fit in with the new more stylish looks I would like to start wearing. My husband already thinks I have too many… Oh to be a man and have three pairs of shoes that are comfortable and stylish.

The Long Way Home

I drove to the grocery store this evening to do the weekly shopping. I had no problem getting there the normal way but I figured I would try a new way home. An hour later I finally got home. Normally I wouldn’t think that was a blog-worthy event. But while on me detour I found myself with a spectacular view of lower Manhattan. Not bad. Even so, I think next time I will take the normal way home.

Fashionista

I am not a fashionista. I never have been and I suspect I never will be. I am creative in a lot of ways, but with clothes, I just can’t make it come together. Part of the trouble is what I see in the magazines are models who look good in everything and I, will all my curves, need to dress just a little differently. I have been on a shopping tear lately and it occurred to me that before I head too far down a path where the fashion police are bound to arrest me that I should reach out for some guidance. But who does one ask to turn a critical eye on one’s wardrobe? Husband? Um… no. So with few girl friends I feel comfortable enough asking to come and watch me try on clothes, I turn to family. Tomorrow Mom, Aunt and highly fashionable, hip young cousin will be playing what not to wear with me and my clothes. Mom will be participating via satellite which is good because if she is too mean I can mute her. (Consider that your first warning, Mom.) I think it is a good mix of young, sophisticated and practical but still I am a little nervous. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Plastic Bag Yarn

Hey all you earth conscious knitters. I have a recycling project for you! Unless you have a dog whose poo you have to dispose of, you probably have a back up of plastic bags from the grocery store. You use them to line smaller garbage cans or pack your lunch in them to at least get one more use, but try as you might they still pile up. I admit that every once in a while I can’t take it anymore and I toss them out. Until now. On the Gooseflesh I read a post on how to make yarn out of these plastic bags. Brilliant! I am not sure what I would knit with this yarn, but it is worth investigating.

Amazing DIY

Via Apartment Therapy I found this amazing bathroom. I love the concrete japanese soaking tub. I am not really one to take a bath but for those times when I would want to soak that would be perfect. And the beautiful wall graphic is so inspirational. The most amazing part is this bathroom apparently only cost $3,000.

Garden Sculpture

With 15 acres of property as a canvas I am constantly thinking of things we can make and do. I ran across MADE LLC, an architecture firm in Brooklyn. I love their winning design for the Philbrook Museum Garden Pavilion. What a beautiful way to incorporate natural materials into the living landscape.

Hey You!

Hey you, reading this blog. Yeah, I am talking to you. Don’t look around like there is someone else around that maybe I am talking to, I am talking to you. You enjoy reading this blog, right? Well I want to let you in on a little secret. There is a very good chance that I would enjoy reading your blog as well. So what are you waiting for? I think I am the prime example that you can have a blog even if you think don’t have anything to say and people are going to read it and enjoy it and find out a little about you that maybe they didn’t know. What’s that? You are busy and don’t think you have the time? How long do you think it takes to write a few sentences? Seriously, go to blogger, sign up and send me the link so I can read about you. What are you waiting for? Go. Shoo!

Slammed Door, Open Window

I have heard that when God closes a door he somewhere opens a window. God, if you are reading this, did you have to slam the door so hard right when I was about to walk through? It really hurt and I was so confused that I kept banging my head on it until I found the open window. Now I appreciate the window and I am going to use it, but next time maybe take it a little easier on me. It is like you don’t know your own strength or something.

How to Be a Badass

The only thing more badass than this star you can stick on your boots to light your matches would be a sticker for your face that you could put in a discreet area and light your matches that way. I am not a smoker, but this makes me want to be. (Relax. It doesn’t really.)
