I love birds and I love cookies so it makes sense that I love these beautiful bird cookies. The icing work is amazing! Such wonderful detail, I am not sure I could bring myself to eat them. While poking around Eleni’s page I found she also makes cupcakes! I think I may have to get myself over to the Chelsea Market after work when treats are half price. via

One Skein

moebiuslacecowl

I heart yarn. I used to buy acrylic yarn by the bushel, but I have learned that wool is a much nicer yarn to work with, even with its higher price tag. More often than not when I find myself in a yarn store, I can only justify buying one skein since I usually don’t have a pattern in mind but really want to buy some yarn. Consequently I am always on the look out for projects that use one skein of yarn. This moebius lace cowl fits the bill and will be perfect for the warmer, yet still chilly weather we have coming our way. Thank you for the free pattern, Turvid! via

I Heart New Yorkers

12-shoes-nyc-new-york_sm

As you are walking through the park in NYC you see a disposable camera attached to a bench with a note reading,”Good afternoon! I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I’ll be back later this evening to pick it up.” This is exactly what some folks at Glamour did and they got 23 fabulous pictures… and one… well… I suppose they thought they were being amusing. This is why I live in NY. I love that people can rise to the occasion and be so creative! It makes me want to get a disposable digital and do a little test of my own.

Living Together in Perfect Harmony

For some reason, I can’t get black and white cookies out of my head. Wait, are they cookies or cake? Well, both… I mean neither… I mean… Apparently bakers would take their extra cake batter, add some extra flour to control spread, ice and voila. I have to admit that I never even had one of these tasty treats until after I met M and even after having one didn’t really see the draw. Until recently. Now I can’t stop thinking about them. They are like the new cupcake. I think the only way I am going to get over this obsession is to make a batch. Luckily Deb over at Smitten Kitchen has a recipe. She has never let me down before so I am very hopeful soon I will have some homemade cookies… I mean cakes… whatever. Delicous little treats.

Button Stash

0220_if1I have a huge button stash. It is the combination of the stashes of my aunt and grandmother. Since I don’t sew, there isn’t much call for me to use them often. and I am always looking for a way to dig in and use some of these beauties. Even though I don’t sew often, I can do it and these laptop pillows by Intelligent Forms Design are a great idea! I love the monochromatic look of this pillow with the pop of color from the thread, but I can totally see how you could use buttons you happen to have around.

Deer Head for the Rest of Us

faux_buck_chronicle1

I am not big on hunting, but when you have a cabin in the woods you are required to have a deer head hanging on the wall. OK you aren’t required, but when you can have one as fabulous as this why wouldn’t you? Now you can with this template from the book Dorm Decor. I can’t wait to make one for our little 10 x 10.  I could kick myself for recycling our TV box, it would have been perfect! I love the print they used for the deer head and the wood grain for the base. Maybe I can find one of the adorable bird prints to go with it. via

Foux Da Fa Fa

I have only seen a few episodes of Flight of the Conchords, but I do find the show amusing. Foux Da Fa Fa reminds me of high school french. I remember enough to understand the song, but that is about all. The tune is really catchy and perfect for a tired Friday and will have me laughing frenchly all weekend. via

I Think I’ll Pass

I have held my tongue on this issue up until now but enough is enough. I am sorry if you stop reading this blog because of what I am about to say, but I have to say it. I am not a fan of Jonathan Adler. I am so tired of seeing his everywhere and having people ask me if it is hot or not. Not! I don’t care if I have no money, or all the money in the world I am not buying what he has to sell. And this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Phew. I feel better. Back to your regularly scheduled posts of things I like.

And Another One Down

craftcovers1-10A very sad email just found its way to my inbox. Craft magazine is no more. Issue 10 is the last issue. I am bummed. I seems like just yesterday I was so excited to learn that Make magazine would have a sister coming out and it would be devoted to craft. (Come to think of it, I never did get that tshirt I was promised…) I haven’t been this disappointed since I flipped through the first issue only to find there was no pattern for the adorable robots on the front. What a tease. This last issue was packed with lots of interesting stuff that made me glad I was a subscriber. I will be finishing out this subscription with a few issues of Make and I will stay in touch with the blog and what will hopefully be expanded online content, but it just isn’t the same. ReadyMade, if you are reading this, HANG IN THERE!!

Pop Heart

3269731042_ec05b3949c_bDiana Prince of My Gurumi is giving us this wonderful pattern for a pop art heart. I love it! Even if you aren’t much for valentine’s day this heart looks adorable in other colors. I can totally see adding this to my growing list of knitted toys I am planning on making. Who knew Wonder Woman crocheted when she wasn’t fighting crime (sorry I couldn’t help making a comic geek joke…) Thanks Diana! via
