It IS All Happening at the Zoo

I am so bad. Two weeks ago I went to the orchid show at the NY Botanical gardens and the zoo and I didn’t write about it. Even worse than that I didn’t post the pictures. First of all, it was a great day to not go to work. The sun was shining, it was warm enough to not have to bother with a coat. The orchids were beautiful. The baby animals were cute. I will post links and pictures later.

Egg Cakes

I saw the neatest little cakes today. They are made inside of egg shells. I don’t know what it is about baking things that would try the patience of a saint (see my tiny cupcakes post) but I can’t help myself. I am now going to have to make these adorable little egg shaped cakes.

Aaaaaaaaaawwww!

Meet Joelle. She is about 4 months old now. Isn’t she a cutie! Her mother and I used to work together but we don’t get to see each other so often anymore. We are having lunch on Thursday though so I am excited.

Favorite Flower

My most favorite flower is the runuculus. I hadn’t even heard of it until my wonderful husband surprised me with the most beautiful flower arrangement I have ever seen one year. I had to call the florist and ask what these flowers were, that is how much I loved them. They are a lot like peonies which I also love in that they start life as a ball of petals and open up with a petal explosion. They come in many colors although I prefer the deep red. Honey, maybe it is time for some flowers. 🙂

Funk

M & I are in a bit of a rut lately. It feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day and I end up feeling like I didn’t accomplish much beyond watching TV when it is time for bed. In an effort to shake things up I have started getting up an hour earlier. It ain’t easy convincing my sleeping self it is going to be worth it, but once I get going it is great. This morning I had time I putter around and even eat breakfast before I left. I would have been to work on time had the MTA not plotted against me. But even with their efforts to thwart me, 4 trains later I was at work only 10 minutes late, which is actually 20 minutes earlier than usual. Not bad.

Third Time is A Charm… I Hope

Oy. I was given a knitted blanket kit from D a while ago and I am just getting around to it now. It had been started and was in a bit of a tangle so I ripped it out and started over. The blanket it knit on size 35 circular needles and has 5 different yarn strands, one type that sheds like crazy. As I was nearing row 20 or so I realized that I was not going to have nearly enough of one type of yarn to make anything larger than a pillow case… So I read the pattern more closely and realized that I was using too much of one type of yarn. After ripping out what I had done, covering myself in fuzz that makes it look like a white cat sat on me for a week, I adjusted the strands I started again. Last night I got all the way to row 40 and realized there were two balls of yarn of a type that I hadn’t used yet! Now you may be wondering why I don’t just add this new yarn and continue until the end. I wish I was the type of person who could do that. But I just can’t. I will have to rip out everything I have done and start over… again. I hope that this is the last time. D, I was going to give you the blanket, but after all this I am going to keep it.

CB2

M & I have a love/hate relationship with IKEA. We love so many of their inexpensive, simple designs, we love their as is section which gets our creative juices flowing and we love that we can get storage boxes for half the price they are available anywhere else. But we HATE that so very often they are out of the very thing that we need. This past weekend we went to get pieces for project closet and despite the fact that I checked to see if the items were in stock, the items were not in stock. It was very frustrating. Luckily we are within driving distance of 3 stores, but this means another trip this weekend. Well today I read on Apartment Therapy that CB2 is opening a store in SoHo next to one of my other very favorite stores Pearl River. While I have never actually been to CB2, I have checked them out online. They are Crate & Barrell’s younger hipper, more reasonably priced sibling. Watch out IKEA, we may have a new love.
