I Wanna Rock!

If you didn’t already know, I am a fan of video games. I can go for months without playing, but when we find a good one M&I can waste lots of time together. This weekend we were at M’s Dad’s house and his sister has guitar hero. I have never played before and M only played a few times, but we were hooked. So hooked we went out and bought one of our own. We are both still on easy, but we hope to move up to medium one of these days. With a lot of practice maybe we will even beat Slash. While Guitar Hero is a great game, what we really can’t wait for is Rock Band for the Wii. Then we can live out our dreams of becoming a garage cover band. Rock on!

Embroidery

When I was younger I used to work on embroidery projects. I used to love being able to follow the directions and come out with something crafty. I think my mom still has one of my projects hanging in her kitchen. I stopped partly because I went off to college and who has time to embroider in college and didn’t pick it up again because of the lack of patterns that appeal to me. When shopping around it seems that if you like country, you are set. If you don’t, well apparently you have to do a little hunting, but it isn’t impossible. This deer and bird scene is adorable. Maybe after my craft diet is over I will take up embroidery again. link

Look Mom, No Stems!

Ages ago I was given a Pottery Barn gift certificate for Christmas. I don’t happen to be a huge PB shopper so for years it has been kicking around, resurfacing every once in a while. We have packed and moved it several times around Brooklyn and out to NM and back. Basically, it is a miracle it hasn’t been lost. M&I finally decided we were going to get something… anything. After circling the store a few times, almost deciding on something that we really didn’t want we saw these stemless glasses. We went for the red wine glasses although I have to tell you that I have and will continue to drink white wine from them. They are great. They are thin and feel so elegant. We even had $5 left over from the gift certificate. It is like it was meant to be.

5lbs Doesn’t Seem Like Enough, Let’s Get 10

This weekend I was a cooking fiend! A friend came over Saturday and after some shopping we headed to my place for some cooking, baking, drinking and movie watching. Phew! We decided on Horseradish Mashed Potato Pie for dinner (NOT a 30 min endeavor I don’t care what Rachel says), and bacon chocolate chip cookies. In our infinite wisdom we decided that since we were making one batch of the mashed potato pie, why not double the recipe and then each have some leftovers. Now, the recipe called for 5lbs of mashed potatoes… why it didn’t occur to us in the store that 10lbs of potatoes is an insane amount of potato, I still can’t figure out. We decided on ground chicken instead of beef and got a pack of soup veggies instead of what was listed, although it was a pretty close match. We made our own bacon bits for the cookies so thank goodness we didn’t double that recipe! Holy bacon. After what seemed like hours of chopping and making bacon, we were finally ready to start cooking and baking. Of course we had to do both at once so it was utter chaos in the kitchen. Thank goodness for the kitchen aid. And thank goodness for the huge stock pot D bought us ages ago. Let’s just say that I don’t want to see another potato or another piece of bacon for a good long time.

Quite the Hoofer

I pulled this gem out to play on my new iPod Touch. If you haven’t seen the Fatboy Slim Weapon of Choice video with Christopher Walken, have a seat and enjoy.

Form AND Function!

For as long as I can remember I have been reusing plastic shopping bags as trash can liners. A little trick my mom passed on to me. The designer in me desperately wants to buy nice neat bags that will look good in the trash cans but I can’t in good conscious do that. Well finally someone has come up with a trash can that uses the plastic grocery bags but hides them so you don’t have to look at the ragged handles or the fact that they are yellow… Now when can I buy one? via

Fourtune Cookies

Chinese New Year is almost upon us. February 8th begins the year of the rat. I have a ton of fabric lying around and this seems like a perfect way to give some away as a gift.
