More Felt Love

After posting the felted pin cushion I started to get the itch to make something myself and what better than a felted bag! Mags Kandis posted this beautiful free pattern for a bucket bag. I especially love the embroidery embellishments. In fact if you click around Mags’ site you will see a lot of inspirational embellishments. I am also intrigued by the link to kiva.org and I plan to find out what they are all about.

Felt

While browsing around Supermarket I saw these adorable felted pin pods. The design and the color are just wonderful. So vibrant and rich. It helps that they are made of my favorite material in the world. I especially like the view of their cute little bottoms. I don’t think I could decide on just one! If I were more of a sewer I might consider, but $62 is a little dear for someone who hasn’t managed to sew a straight line in years. The felted bowls on her site remind me I have some yarn waiting to be knitted and felted into some bowl shapes of their own.

David Trubridge

I have been meaning to post about my love for David Trubridge’s light for a while now. I first saw his lamps in New Zealand and have been lusting after one ever since. I love the lighteness of the wood, but the overall size of the lamp. I love that when you buy one, they come in a box not much bigger than a ream of 11×17 paper and you have to put it together yourself.  Even with the 50% price drop since DWR has been carrying his Coral Pendant, the price tag has been holding me back. The DIY part of me has been thinking I could come up with something similar. Finally someone has posted directions on how you can make a very similar, although much smaller lamp. I think I am going to have to try for my own DIY design.

Tricycle

If someone came up to me and told me they rode a tricycle and they were over the age of 5, I would probably look at them as if they were crazy. Until today. My cousin and her boyfriend found this amazing bike for $6.89 at their local Salvation Army and restored it to its current fabulousness! And yes, that is not a typo, $6.89. I love the basket, and I love that it has three wheels. I have often thought it would be great to ride a bike to work, but I have to admit I am a little scared to try. I might feel a little safer with such sturdy transport. Below is a before shot so you can appreciate how much work went into this project. Maybe I can get them to come and rehab a bike for me. In case you were so jealous that you wanted to get your own an didn’t mind shelling out a little cash, you can buy one here.

Making the Old New

In our kitchen we have a chandelier. We rent so we can’t really change it as much as I would like to. It is brass with plastic “crystals”. We cleaned it as best we could when we moved in, but it didn’t help much. A while ago we had an idea to wrap the whole thing with christmas lights. The one thing holding us back was we didn’t like the idea of having to hide the cord and we couldn’t find the necessary hardware to get around this easily. Enter this terrific light by Tom Raffield. We both love bent wood and I think we could do a DIY version of this without too much trouble. While I would love to buy the real thing, it will have to wait for when we have a place of our own. via

A Cosy Apple

Last night I was feeling creative. I have been eating a lot of apples lately and decided that it would be the perfect time to knit myself an apple cosy. M didn’t quite get why I would need one, but I think it turned out well and now I can throw my apple in my purse and it is protected. I only had wool yarn because that is what I had. The leaf was a little too cute for my taste so I left it out.

iPhone Case

My protective iPhone case and screen cover are on the way. In the meantime I wanted to protect my shiny new gadget so I made a case for it with some felt and a button I had. There is nothing that makes me sadder than the first scuff, scratch, or ding. I think it turned out pretty ok.

I Gave In

I have been on the hunt for a new phone for a while now. I had a Nokia e62 and while I liked the full size keyboard I wasn’t thrilled with the sluggish symbian operating system. I am a mac girl so what I really wanted was an iPhone. But I am cranky at Apple and mostly ATT for making us get an unlimited data plan and pay for text messages. The original iPhone users weren’t hit with such penalties… I digress. Well as it turns out, the phones I like require a data plan. So, I gave in. If I am going to pay a data plan I might as well do it for an iPhone. I went for the white. Now I am on the hunt for a case. I found a screen protector and snap on back for a very reasonable price. I was thinking it would be nice to have a pouch for it to slip in as well. I of course did a search on felt cases and turned up these lovely ones by Red Maloo. German, of course. (You may recognize their laptop cover as having made the rounds) Not sold in the US… of course. I am now remembering that I saw their booth at ICFF this year and used all the will power I had and didn’t buy anything. Not that I knew I would have an iPhone then. I do have some felt at home itching to be made into something lovely. You can check them out here.

Knitting Season

I don’t knit in the summer. It is just feels wrong to me to have a huge pile of yarn in my lap when it is 80 degrees and the humidity it through the roof. Today is an especially crisp lovely late summer/early fall day here in NY and I have started to think it might be time to break out my needles again. These patterns for fruit cosies might be just the think I need to get back into the swing of things. via

Wordle

I admit, I heard about Wordle months ago but didn’t think it could be all that cool. I kept seeing posts about how great it was and how customizable and blah blah blah. Well the blah blah is true. It actually is quite a neat program and can make your words (in my case I added my blog address) look lovely with their custom palettes or if you have time to play you can create your own. This last time via.
